Welcome Voltage Smile

@everybody: I think pete has stumbled onto something. Maybe we should let each other know thru the forums who it is we are inviting to NGM. Theme Asylum is a different matter as it is going to be open to everyone, but this (NGM) is BACKSTAGE access so to speak. That way we have all have a voice in who's in the "need to know" category. Smile

Just had a random thought (ggirl style bounce ). Talking about tutorials, would it be worth doing a few different sections for people that use different graphics programmes? You know, people who are good with photoshop can do their section, people good with gimp can do one etc. Just an idea because they are not all the same, and when you are first learning, reading a tutorial for photoshop when you use paint.net can be very confusing?

Like I said it's random but, it would have helped me when I first started Very Happy

@ revo, I totally agree Like a Star @ heaven

Well, if you could make a list with all the photo editing programs, I'll make sub-sections in the tutorials forums. Cause it's a great idea.

That's a good idea GGirl all that needs is in the title of the tutorial we name the imaging program used unless Gabby wants to add different sections in the tutorial section?we need to list the programs used for example I mainly use Photophiltre Studio and Photoshop cs5 there are others as well such as Gimp can anyone else think of any?

EDIT..Darn just beaten by Gabby!

hi voltage, hope you have an electric time here Razz

first of all brilliant idea Pete and secondly brilliant extra idea ggirl. I'm at my wits end with Corel and need to start using a new program, but I'm not too keen on reading the whole tutorial, just to find out how to theme, so a separate tutorial for the programs would be amazing. I could finally learn to use Photoshop, which at the moment just confuses me and Gimp, I've heard only good stuff about. Can't wait guys Very Happy

Ready, steady.....go!!!

The only thing I know how to use is Corel Graphics Suite X5 and paint.net a little bit. I'm having problems with clarity of images with my X5. No matter how high or low the dpi is the pictures still come out blurry. I'm gonna have to swap to some other software (and I'm as reluctant as you are, now that I've finally learned how to use it, lol) unless anybody here can help me with my X5. Sad

Yes, I can understand that.

Btw. Doesnt Corel have some sharpening filters? It might help to sharpen before shrinking to size. (or maybe afterwards)

yeah, there are some sharpening filters, about 5 that you can combine at will, but it kind of makes them grizzly and I don't see why they should lose sharpness anyway if I start off with a really clear pic. There has got to be a way around this problem. But thanks for the suggestion. I'll have a play and see what I come up with. Smile

I use all kinds of filters before or after shrinking (depending on the original). Pics tend to lose detail and sharpness when shrinking. It's basically the same in Photoshop.

I like to flatten out detail before shrinking (Smart Blur filter makes similar and adjacent colors the same, resulting in big planes). And afterwards some sharpening filters to enhance the edges of objects. That often gives a better result then just shrinking a picture. Especially when the difference in size between original and result is quite big.

oh that's a good tip, thanks voltage. I'll have some kind of smart blur filter, I'm sure. I'll have a go using it. It's odd though that you have a big picture and when you make it small it blurs, I mean I can understand the opposite, having something small and making it large. Looks like whoever writes a program that can shrink without losing sharpness will be very rich indeed Very Happy
